Dear All,

Another zen story from the web. My thanks to the unknown author.

Jai Maa

Nanda

====================================

Word spread across the countryside about the wise Holy Man who lived

in a small house atop the mountain. A man from the village decided

to make the long and difficult journey to visit him. When he arrived

at the house, he saw an old servant inside who greeted him at the

door. "I would like to see the wise Holy Man," he said to the

servant. The servant smiled and led him inside. As they walked

through the house, the man from the village looked eagerly around

the house, anticipating his encounter with the Holy Man. Before he

knew it, he had been led to the back door and escorted outside. He

stopped and turned to the servant, "But I want to see the Holy Man!"

"You already have," said the old man. "Everyone you may meet in

life, even if they appear plain and insignificant... see each of

them as a wise Holy Man. If you do this, then whatever problem you

brought here today will be solved."

==========================================

Nanda's footnote : The story is cute, but is it REALLY possible to

see each person as a wise Holy person ? I welcome your thoughts...

yes it is possible. maybe it is only for one second, maybe for the

rest of your present incarnation, maybe on and off, many for longer

and longer periods. i believe, the success of your meditation = the

sustained and creative and inspired efforts u make. peace peace peace.

Dear Steve and Eric and all,

Thank you for your responses to my question "Can we see everyone as

the wise holy person".

I wanted to share another parable that I found on the web. This

illustrates that what we see in others is a projection of what we

see within us. ie, to see everyone as holy, one would need to become

holy. With Maa and Swamiji's blessings and continued sadhana, may we

all become so !

Lord Krishna wanted to test the wisdom of his kings. One day he

summoned the eldest Kaurava brother - Duryodana. Duryodana was well known

throughout the land for his cruelty and miserliness, and his subjects lived in

terror.

Lord Krishna said to King Duryodana, "I want you to go and travel

the world over and find for me one truly good man."

Duryodana replied, "Yes, Lord," and obediently began his search.

He met and spoke with many people, and after much time had passed he

returned to Lord Krishna saying, "Lord, I have done as

you have asked and searched the world over for one truly good man.

He is not to be found. All of them are selfish and wicked.

Nowhere is there to be found this good man you seek!"

Lord Krishna sent him away and called the eldest Pandava brother-

Dharmaraja. He was a king well known for his generosity and benevolence and well

loved by all his people.

Krishna said to him, "King Dharmaraja, I wish for you to travel the

world over and bring to me one truly wicked man."

Dharmaraja also obeyed, and on his travels met and spoke with many

people.

After much time had passed he returned to Krishna saying, "Lord, I

have failed you. There are people who are misguided, people who are misled,

people who act in blindness but nowhere could I find one truly evil man. They

are all good at heart despite their failings!"

Hey Nanda Ji,

There is a book written on this story. I think it's

just titled "The Holy Man". It's a really great little

book.
