September 7th, 2005 is Maha Ganesh Chaturthi. I have

ordered a copy of Swamiji's Ganesh Puja book to help

me perform a ritual on this holiday.

A friend says he has heard a tape of Deepak Chopra

interviewing Shree Maa, and early in the tape Maa

sings or chants Narada Rishi's shloka giving the 12

names of Ganesha. I am looking to see if this tape is

still available. I would love to hear a tape of Maa

chanting the Atharva Shirsha, which praises Ganesh as

being beyond the three Qualities (Gunas), and

containing the five Elements (Bhutas).

The tweleve names of Ganesha can be chanted at dawn

and dusk, to bring about blessings and remove

obstacles. They are:

Om Vakratundaya namah [having a twisted trunk]

Om Ekadantaya namah [one tusked]

Om Krishnapingakshaya namah [with dark brown eyes]

Om Gajavaktraya namah [with elephant's mouth]

Om Lambodaraya namah [with pot-belly]

Om Vikataya namah [outrageous-looking]

Om Vighnarajaya namah [king over obstacles]

Om Dhumravarnaya namah [smoky colored]

Om Balachandraya namah [bearing a crescent moon]

Om Vinayakaya namah [mighty leader]

Om Ganapataye namah [lord of categories]

Om Gajananaya namah [with elephant's face]

"Ishvaraputram namo namah"

(To Lord Shiva's son, I bow again and again!)
