Guest guest
i think you will be ok if you follow swamiji's method: make goals that are within reach and stick to them. so if your goal is a 15 minute puja 2x per day, then you can meet that and not stress about conflicts. then when that is working, increase to longer periods, or more, or whatever your creative intelligence is inspired to do. grow organically, that is what he said. , "sadumaa" <sadumaa> wrote: > Anyone interesting in a discussion of this message? Guest guest
OM NAMAH SIVAYA i think also that as you move more towards the refuge your relations with others may change. they may no longer fit into the balance. you have some people who stay with you thru the changes and others who don't. the karma is over. you have to follow your heart i guess. Guest guest
Thanks everyone. This discussion is very helpful. I am a very traditional and loyal person in many ways and have taken some family responsibilities very seriously. I have been thinking a lot lately about what Swamiji says about meeting our karmic responsibilities to the young and old efficiently. I tend to push myself to the extreme. Some pretty serious tapas in terms of duty. Knowing when to stop, when to get more efficient has been part of my learning. Lately I have found myself out of balance. I have given more than I have (mentally, physically, spiritually) and my anger popped up. I realized that it came out of an instinct for self preservation, but also a real signal to step back and look at where/how I have gotten out of balance. Time to make more space again to take refuge in God. This is an important lesson for me, that meeting my karmic responsibilities does not always mean that I am the one doing. Perhaps I am the one arranging for things to be done. Guest guest
Dear Holy Family, I would like to respond to the question of maintaining balance between our spiritual sadhana and worldly responsibilities. I also struggle with this every day. What helps me is to try to work without attachment. In my daily job, I try to maintain the attitude of service of God in man and to offer the results of all my efforts to God. Holy company, faith, and sadhana help keep my mind in the right place. The Bhagavad Gita tells us in chapter 3, verse 19: "Therefore, always efficiently perform all actions without attachment, for one who performs actions without attachment attains the Supreme." Arjuna had this same kind of question in which he wanted to leave the battlefield and Krishna made him go back to work! In fact, I believe the Gita is one long divine discourse on how to remain detached and dedicated to God even in the most intense, worldly activity. In effect, if I follow this teaching, I never have to walk away. I can attain the Supreme realization in the very midst of activity. Love to all and Jay Shiva!
