I gotta question

Dear All,

I was trying to translate a mantra (will post on it later) when

suddenly I was stumped by the sanskrit syllable "chit" which

means "consciousness".

Now most of us would have used the word "consciousness" , "supreme

consciousness" etc very lightly to describe God. But my question is -

WHAT IS THE EXACT MEANING OF CONSCIOUSNESS ?

What do we mean when we say "God is Supreme Consciousness" ?

Your well thought , intuitive responses welcomed.

Jai Supreme Consciousness.

awareness, or self-awareness. it is the substance of everything. that

is a theory, or belief, we are working on becoming reality. sadhana or

devotion reveals it. thoughts and belief in separate self mask it.

Namaste Nanda,

you asked: What do we mean when we say "God is Supreme Consciousness" ?

I would say pure consciousness. No form.

Here is something I saw on the web today. One party says thought is

caused by matter, and the other says matter is caused by thought.

Both statements are wrong; matter and thought are coexistent. There

is a third something of which both matter and thought are products.

Dear Nanda,

And what a question it is, too!

Anyway, what I hesitatingly would like to contribute is: consciousness

is THAT which cannot be grasped by thought and what eludes any attempt

to circumscribe it. It is always more than our attempts to understand

and yet it is at the center of our attempts; It is the source of our

questioning, It supports our questioning, and finally It dissolves our

questioning into Its own Being.

I guess this does not help you much and is no answer at all, but you

have made me chew on the question for a whole day, so I thought I

might as well let you have the result:),

with love,

Henny

Supreme Consciousness is God. God is Supreme Consciousness.

from a practical perspective, I understand Supreme Consciousness as

the plane of existence where the individual soul and the Supreme

Soul(God) become one. this would be the seventh(highest) plane of

consciousness.

Sri Ramakrishna says the aspirant who has reached this plane, goes

into samadhi.

as Steve comments, our sadhana takes us there.

Jai Maa!

Conciousness is that which percieves the objects of

conciousness. That conciousness pervades the whole

creation. The point at which conciousness percieves

the objects of conciousness is the bindu, the point of

union between Shiva and Shakti. From that point, all

existence arises!
