Guest guest
Om Namah Sivaya, Dear Beloved Family, I have a couple of questions that come up every time i am chanting the Chandi - i was wondering if you could help with your thoughts and insights. (a) Chapter 1, verses 49 and 50 -- There is a discussion on how objects of senses are perceived differently by different creatures. Then it says "It is true that humans have a capacity of understanding, but not only humans. This konwledge is common to all animals, whether beasts of the forest or birds of the air; all living beings possess this understanding just as human beings." What is this understanding? What is the "general principle" that is being referred to here and in verse 51? (b) In chapter 5, verse 120, Divine Mother says "yo maam jayati sangraame you me darpam vyapohati yo me prati balo loke sa me bharat bhavisyati." Translation: Whoever will defeat me in the battle, whoever will lose self-conceit in me, whoever will see all the force in the universe in me, he will be my husband. My understanding of the second and third clauses are that we lose our ego, our identity in Mother and we see God in all beings. What does it mean to defeat Her in battle? © When Self-conceit gives orders to His generals to bring Divine Mother - he asks them to grab Her by the hair (e.g. Verse 23, chapter 6). Parvati had said in the Chandi classes that Maa said that grabbing Her by the hair means that we drag Mother into the world -- I was not sure what exactly this means. Please can you share your understanding. By the way, the Chandi on-line classes are just amazing - It is so wonderful to go back to them after a gap of time. Thanks very, very much to all of our beautiful brothers and sisters who have shared their insights and helped us! My prostrations to Shree Maa and Swamiji and humble pranaams to all of you. Thanks so much for reading and i wait to hear your thoughts! Thank you! Jai MAA! ramya
Guest guest
This is my humble understanding. I hope it helps... a) chapter 1 verse 47-53 Verses 47-49 through these verses the Medhas tells us that all living things perceive through the 5 senses though at different rates. verses 49- 51 - through these verses He tells us that all of us have the capacity to make sense of (understand) all the information coming through our senses . Or living things in general can react or act on this information. So in the general terms, we all are alike. Verses 52-53 through these verses He tells us though we are alike, in animals the instinct of survival is what mostly drives them, but in human beings it has become so refined that they perceive multiple layers of understanding. The more they differentiate, the more they become "I" conscious and results in increased fear and desire. So when a choice is made they tend look back in regret. Verse 54 - All this is but Her play... b) chapter 5 verse 120 in this verse we see the beauty of Swamiji's translation - a translation which is also an intuitive commentary which jumps at us from the book, forcing us to contemplate... while most translate it as, He who conquers me in battle, removes my pride and is my match in strength in the world shall be my husband... Swamiji translates as, Whoever will defeat me in the battle, whoever will lose self-conceit in me, whoever will see all the force in the universe in me, he will be my husband... So it is easily understood from Swamiji's translation, the only way to escape(defeat) Mahamaya is to lose our sense of 'I' in her and doing so see Her as everything and what that means is 'Union' or to marry Her... In Swamiji's own words, in page 2 of the Chandi Path - before the Introduction - He says "I dance, and all that you perceive are its manifestations. If you like , you can watch me dance, or if you like you can make me stop. He who can make me stop, I make him a Seer, a man of wisdon, one of intuitive vision, my husband, Lord Shiva, the Consciousness of Infinite Goodness" The Chandi is not only singing Her praises when seen through Swamiji's translation ,it is a call to understand Her exploits in our lives in every verse and undergo transformation verily as we chant... and all that there is for us to do is shout 'Victory to YOU' like the devas and let Her do the rest... C)Chapter 6 verse 23, Hair is a symbol of raw personal power in mythology, eg. Samson in the Bible, Sikhs, men and women refusing to tie their hair till a specific action is attained etc. So when Self-conceit asks Anger and Passion to grab HER by her hair he is asking them to control HER energies and make it subservient to them i.e use it in anger due to pride and use to fulfill your lower passions. So when Maa said that, 'grabbing Her by the hair means that we drag Mother into the world' She means we use spirituality to satisfy our egos, not to attain HER Grace... In the end , all I can say is what She says "This entire narration of my glories makes my presence manifest" - Chapter 12, verse 20. The most important thing is to keep chanting HER and She will manifest herself in you,and thats when you will really understand Her ... , "amritadaasi" <amritadaasi> wrote: > Om Namah Sivaya, > > Dear Beloved Family, > > I have a couple of questions that come up every time i am chanting the > Chandi - i was wondering if you could help with your thoughts and > insights. > > (a) Chapter 1, verses 49 and 50 -- There is a discussion on how > objects of senses are perceived differently by different creatures. > Then it says "It is true that humans have a capacity of understanding, > but not only humans.
