Suggestions needed for environmental friendly cleaners for copper/silver

Hi all,Was wondering if people can suggest environmental friendly

cleaning tips for those of us that use copper/silver utensils for

worship. I use a copper container for water and silver container for

milk/5 nectars bath.Copper/silver tarnishes easily, and while the

commercial cleaners do a good job, I am a little leery about using

them since I drink the water/milk offered to the deity as prasad ,

and dont want to intake a whole load of chemicals .Any suggestions

for cleaning silver/copper welcomed.JAI MAANanda

Nanda, we use 2 tablespoons of calgon powdered water softener, and 2

tablespoons of iodinized salt dissolved in a sink of warm water.

put a crumbled piece of aluminum foil in the sink. and dip the

silver in the sink. take it out and dry it. its best to do this

often because if items are very tarnished it doesn't work as well.

i think this will work for only the silver not the copper. MAA!

well nanda i have not a clue. but here is what i found via google.

this sounds not to hard ...

Copper Pots: To remove tarnish from copper pots, rub with lemon halves

dipped in salt.

is this cooking or cleaning?

Make a paste using flour, salt, and vinegar. Brush it on, let it sit a

while, then rinse it off. The acetic acid in the vinegar causes the

tarnish to slowly dissolve. Stubborn coatings may require more than

one application.

and ...

#1 Polish with Bar Keepers Friend and fine steel wool. Use plenty of

elbow grease. Keep the kettles extra bright by washing well with soap

and water after polishing.

#2 Dip half a lemon in kosher salt and rub well. Then polish with a

soft cloth and beeswax for a deep, lasting copper shine.

#3 Table salt and vinegar remove oxidation from copper.

#4 To clean a copper kettle or boiler, you need to remove soap scum

and hard water deposits as well as oxidation. Although a lightly

oxidized copper piece can be cleaned with salt and lemon or vinegar,

steel wool or a buffing wheel are required for heavy-duty copper

cleaning.

#5 Once your piece has a good shine, spray with a brightening product

to maintain the clean, bright finish. Dust occasionally and wipe down

with a cold, damp cloth.

For copper, Lemon juice with some tumeric powder (as a mild abrasive)

works great. I keep some tumeric in a sealable shaker and buy the

store brand lemon juice because it's the cheapest.
