Guest guest
This post reminds me of a thought I had yesterday. The words, "money is the root of all evil," ran through my brain and intuition replied, "No. It is not." "Then what is?" I asked. "Ownership is the root of all evil." We go through life feeling as if we own things. We make the mistake of feeling that we own the things that happen to us. We feel as if we own the objects around us. We feel as if we own our spouses and children and all that they do. We feel as if we own our cars, houses, dogs and cats. We feel as if we own our bodies, our minds, and our emotions. But none of that is ours, it can't be because its impermanent. In a few years it will no longer exist and there is nothing we can do to prevent their going away. Owning impermanence means we are identified with ego, a thing that is itself temporary and fated to cease its existence at some predetermined time. Once we feel that we own something, we are attached to it, and we are no longer satvic toward it. We become afraid of losing it and become rajas to keep it (fight for it) or tamas (resigned to do nothing, aka depressed). All the world's troubles start with a sense of "Mine." I should point out though, that the sense of mine is a step toward liberation -- a very necessary step. So we can't judge ourselves too harshly for feeling a sense of "mine" all we can do is ask Mother to take us beyond the need to feel a sense of "mine" as quickly as possible. "Please Maa help me let go and surrender to your grace. Your Son, Brian"
