Guest guest
Hi, I am a little confused about multiple chantings of the Ganesha Atharvashirsha. I have seen it in multiple places as having 10 verses and then sometimes there is an additional 5 verse part, which I have seen called "Falshruti" which extols the importance of chanting it. It appears that ours is this same way. So do you chant the 10 verses over and over in a sitting and then chant the remaining 5 verses once at the end, or just do all 15 the whole time? Obviously just the 10 is easier and I found an online rendition of it, which gave me a rhythm and melody to chant by. This made it much, much easier. Please let me know as time is running out and I want to help the group sankalpa. I did one full one yesterday but want to do many more. Guest guest
Hi Surya, I hear you - it would make it a lot easier to chant the first 10 as many times as we want and the phalshruti just once. I have been chanting the entire 15 verses as many times as possible. I know that this is how it is done at the Mandir too. However I will pass on your question to Swamiji and inform ASAP. Look forward to you chanting more with the group, I have already added the one recitation to your name. Guest guest
And actually, though I am curious about Swamiji's comments for future use, if this is how it is done at the Mandir, then that is good enough for me for this sankalpa. - Nanda Wednesday, September 07, 2005 12:49 PM Re: I'm a little confused about the Ganesha Atharvashirsha Hi Surya,I hear you - it would make it a lot easier to chant the first 10 as many times as we want and the phalshruti just once. sunilsahota
Hey guys! just wanted to let you know that Ganesh Atharvashirsha is a vedic prayer...to chant vedic mantras you must have a Janeo (sacred thread ceremony) once this ceremony is complete you will be initiated into a gaytri mantra by the priest...once you have that you will be able to chant Vedic Mantras....if you do not have a Janeo you can chant the puranic versions instead until you obtain thethread. For example, Om Triumbakam Yaja Mehe Sujandith Pushti Vardanam, Urva Ruk Niva Vandana Mrityo Mukhsiyamaruthat is a Vedic version of the Maha Mritunjaya Mantra (which shud only be chanted if you have a Janeo) if your waiting for a janeo you shud use the puranic version of the mritunjaya mantra which is "Mritunjaya mahadev trayimam sharanagatham, janma mritu jararogeh perikum karama bandaneh" Good Luck Jai Mataji
