Shiva puja class day 14 pushpa shuddhi

Today we will focus on the pushpa shuddhi(purification of the

flowers)

See page 16 in the Beg. Shiva puja and page 93-94 in the Adv.

book.

When we recite this mantra we wave our hands in prarthana

mudra for the first line. The prarthana mudra is the mudra

symbolizing prayer.

Then we perform the dhenu mudra or amriti karan mudra. We

place the inside fingers over the outside fingers and put them

together and make a little bridge. We will use the dhenu mudra

in many of the viddhis. Dhenu symbolizes the cow who pours

forth goodness. It is also called the amriti karan mudra. Karan

means cause and amrit means the nectar of immortal bliss. We

are dripping the nectar of immortal bliss over everything.

Saying the first line of this mantra we use the prarthana mudra

and saying the second line we use the dhenu mudra. These

mudras are performed over the flowers that you will be using for

your offerings. After the purification of the flowers we are going to

purify our hands.

We take a flower, recite the mantra "om aim ram astraya phat"

and put the flower on the altar.

Homework:

Please read the flower purification and hand mantras in the Adv.

Shiva puja book pgs. 93-94 in Sanskrit and or transliteration plus

read the English.

Stay tuned for a pop quiz of the various purifications we have

learned.

Om namah shivaaya!
