Guest guest
Namaste Parvatiji, thank you for an entertaining afternoon! Here's what I have: 1. Aacamana purifies the mouth and hands. 2. The yantra looks like an equilateral triangle with a dot in the middle. On top of that dot or bindu, we place a flower(petal). 3. The saamaanyaarghya is on page 90 in the Advanced Shiva puja book. 4. Saamaanyaarghya means: saamaanya-ordinary + arghya- any offering by which we convey respect, so saamaanyaarghya means `ordinary offering of respect by means of washing and purifying ourselves and everything we touch'. More specifically, in our puja it refers to the purification of ordinary water so that it becomes fit for use in the respectful reception of a guest, i.e. God. 5. The bindu represents Primal Energy (Adhara Shakti), the origin of Creation, the Point of Origin. The triangle represents That which Supports (Kurma), or the Equilibrium of the Threes (Kamakala) in perfect balance. The circle represents the Infinity of Creation (Endless Possibilities, inexhaustible and inconceivable). The square represents the Earth, the place where we are, and the four objectives of life: dharma: our inspiration/chosen goal, knowing what we want to be and do, artha: the means necessary to attain our goal, kama: our desires all directed towards the attainment of that goal, moksha: attainment of the former three: freedom from ignorance of who we are and what we are supposed to do freedom from fear of lacking support or sustenance freedom from conflicting desires. To know, to dare, to will and to be silent–and rest in That. The yantra, then, represents the Truth about us. 6. Into the water we put: a. tulasi leaves (basil) b. a flower, with the letter `A', and we bow in respect to the twelve aspects of the realm of the sun/solar energy c. a flower, with the letter `U', and we bow in respect to the sixteen aspects of the realm of the moon/lunar energy c. a flower, with the letter `M', and we bow in respect to the ten aspects of the realm of fire. (My attempt to understand: We offer the Lord our hearts so that He may make us knowers of the inner Divine Power supporting us and enlightening us (the light of Wisdom), we offer our minds so that His Light may be reflected therein and our thoughts and desires may become pure (the light of Devotion), and in the fire of Love we burn the dross and digest the pure so that we are transformed therein. The One `residing in the forest of delight' must have complete control over these three and controls the process of purification and transformation.) 7. The Matsyaa Mudraa (symbolizing swimming across the ocean of worldliness without fear, like the fish at the bottom of the pond who is always in the mud but never dirty), the Dhenu Mudraa and the Ankusha Mudraa (cutting down iniquities of the ego/acting as a goad for seekers). 8. It is also called the `mudraa of the cow', pouring forth goodness in abundance, or `amriti karan mudraa', meaning `producing nectar of immortal bliss' or `causing nectar of immortal bliss to stream down' 9. The Praarthanaa Mudraa (mudra of prayer, for purity and clarity) and the Dhenu Mudraa. 10. Kara shuddi purifies the hands. 11. Amen. with love, Henny , "parv108" <parv108> wrote: > Om Namah Shivaaya! > > Dear All, > > Here is a little pop quiz on the various purifications we have been > discussing from the Adv. Guest guest
Thanks for this opportunity. 1. Aacamana purifies the mouth and hands. 2. The yantra looks like a triangle and a flower is placed on the top of the bindu. 3. Page 90. 4. Purification of (ordinary) water. 5. The Bindu symbolizes the point of God. The triangle - all the threes in perfect balance. The circle - creation and the square represents earth. Much of your explanation of question no.5 in day 13 of the Shiva class reminds me of verse 52 of the Guru Gita. 6. We place offerings of tulasi and three flowers when purfiying the water. 7. Matsya, dhenu and ankusa mudras are used for purification of the water. 8. Another name for the dhenu mudra is the amriti karan mudra. This means we are dripping the nectar of immortal bliss over everything we touch. 9. The Praathanaa and Dhenu mudras are used for purification of the flowers. 10. The hands. Om Namah Shivaaya!
