Guest guest
Jai Ganesha... Dear Friends, I have been meditating on the Kavacham, Argala, Kilakam and the Siddha Kunjika recently, I wrote about my limited understanding to Swamiji asking His opinion, He was pleased and asked me to share it with you... Below is my letter to Swamiji... My Humble Pranams at Your Feet...Recently I have been meditating on the Argala, Kilakam and the Siddha Kunjika Stotrams and below is some of my limited understandings through Thakur's Grace... Please do correct me if I am wrong... Understanding the kavacham, argala, kilakam... The Kavacham asks the Goddess to protect us... The Argala stotram praises the Goddess and asks for specific things for our benefit... We can notice how it contrasts with Chapter 12 (Phalashruti) - where the Phalashruti is more passive in explaining the benefits, the Argala stotram is dynamic... The Kilakam gives us the method for realizing these benefits, i.e. it describes the ways to fulfill the prayers asked for in the Argala stotram... “Kilakam” means restraint... What is being restrained... In Verse 6 of the Kilakam it is said... “He (Shiva) made the praise of She Who Tears Apart Thought(Chandi) …” …”There is no end of its merit …” This means that the Chandi is so powerful , that it can accomplish anything... And not just that, it means that even hearing the Chandi just once, one attains everything... Therefore, Shiva, who knows this, put a restraint to stop the misuse of this power... What is the restraint... Verse 8 of the Kilakam says .. “He gives, so in return does he receives, and by no other means is She pleased...” So, the restraint placed by Shiva, is the measurement of our effort or devotion... So if we give 100%, then She is ours completely(verse 9 and 10)... But, regardless, ANY effort we put, Chandi will give the benefits accordingly(verse 8)... But if we stop putting the efforts, we will lose the benefits(verse 11)... Knowing this we should keep up the effort, so that we may keep the benefits and attain more(verse 11)... From this, we can understand that the Chandi is a very powerful tool that it will give us everything and therefore Shiva put the restraint of effort on it... So, The Argala is our fervent prayers to the Goddess to fulfill our different needs… The Kilakam shows us how to fulfill this prayer…The Subtle meaning of the Kilakam... The following is the subtle meaning as I try to understand it with Thakur’s Grace ... The Chandi represents Mother Kundalini, the Cause of everything... Shiva has hid Her in the Muladhara so that we cannot misuse Her... He has put the restraint of Karma on us... According to our effort or karma, we get the corresponding results... When we give 100% of our effort then we awaken Her completely... The Saapodhara and the Utkilana mantras, are those when given by the Guru, makes our effort bear fruit quickly... Comparing the Kavacham, Argala and Kilakam and Siddha Kunjika Stotram... When we chant the Kavacham, Argala , Kilakam and the Chandi, we can ask and can bring about the fulfillment of our desires - from the most petty to the ultimate desire of attaining Her... However, when we chant the Siddha Kunjika Stotram with the Chandi, we are asking Her specifically to come and change us according to HER OWN WILL... HER WILL BE DONE - RIGHT THEN and THERE!! This is the perfection that we are asking for- in the song that gives the key to perfection… This limited undersatnding is through the Grace of Thakur Sri Ramakrishna...In Conclusion what more can I say but to quote from HER... 'The person who constantly recites, clearly removes the pin and becomes an attained one.' (Kilakam Stotram Verse 9)So lets keep chanting HER, not for petty desires but so that SHE can take over our lives... Jai Maa... for Good Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.
