Guest guest
Dear All, Today's photo is a close-up of Surya's altar . The picture itself is so dynamic and just whizzing with energy . He is obviously a great devotee of Lord Shiva . The centerpiece to his altar is a beautiful Narmadeshwar Lingam in the front flanked with pictures of Shiva , Hanuman (another aspect of Shiva) , and then pictures of his Gurus. And let us not forget the sword and the trishul in the background. Surya says his entire temple is a home and this altar is his inner sanctum. Thank you Surya for sharing. His altar can be viewed at / I request everyone that would like to share pictures of their altar to send me an email . Tomorrow we will checkout Muktimaa's place. Guest guest
OM, Yes I do have a thing for Lingams as well as other forms of Shiva and Devi (especially Kali and Durga) and Hanuman, Ram, Krishna and Surya among others. Nandaji displayed the closeup pic of the altar. It is probably better as you can make out a little better what is there. You do miss what is on the flanking sides as well as the hanging bells and curtains though and the big silk painting of my Amma in Her Devi Bhava form. The centerpiece of my altar is actually my Amma's Padukams, that were worshipped daily at Her US ashram for 14 years and above that behind Her pic on the next tier, is an old pair of Her Sandals that She wore for quite a while. I am most fortunate to be the caretaker of these priceless possessions. I switch the arrangment around every few months. The funny thing is though the large Narmadeshwar Lingam towers over the others, the smallest one is probably the most special. I found it in the Narmada at Omkareshwar myself when I was there. Perfect egg shaped and the size of a hen's egg, as extolled in one scripture I found on the subject, though I can't remember its name offhand. Also there is a smaller Parad (Mercury) Lingam there that Shree Maa blessed for me and offered water to, as well as a larger one on the altar. Don't know if you can make out the two real human skulls either. They are a good reminder for me of what is quickly around the corner. Also though my entire temple is a home, I think Nandaji meant to say that my entire home is a temple, which is true. When one lives with three incarnations of the Goddess and one's Guru is also a Goddess and even one's other Gurus are almost all Goddesses, than what else could one do? Wouldn't have it any other way! Jai Maa! Surya - Nanda Sunday, September 18, 2005 10:13 AM The Picture Show - Devi Mandir by-the-sea Dear All,Today's photo is a close-up of Surya's altar .
