Namaste Sangeeta,

Re the specific way of doing the Chandi - you can chant in all the

ways that you have mentioned.

ie - chant at the fire - do a homa. But if you are just starting out

I would recommend just sitting at your altar and chanting for your

deities.

You can chant anytime night or day - in fact it says "chandi patham

diva ratrau kurya devyah na samshayah" - "He who chants the Chandi

in the day and in the night will become a God without a doubt"

You can chant on any day on any paksha . Specifically it says in

Chapter 12 , that the 8th,9th and 14th days of any paksha are

specifically conducive to this text.
