Question about dyes

Question for Swamiji (or anyone).

 

Perhaps this has already been asked somewhere or in some other

reference:

 

The yantra uses dyed sand or grain (?) for coloring the yantra for

homa. What ingredients are used for yellow, red, black (or any color

for that matter)? I could guess at tumeric for yellow, or even soaked

saffron... I'd also guess the dyes would be a vegetable type?
