450--Q&A WITH SWAMIJI-- Dyes used in yantra

The yantra uses dyed sand or grain (?) for coloring the yantra for

homa. What ingredients are used for yellow, red, black (or any color

for that matter)? I could guess at tumeric for yellow, or even soaked

saffron... I'd also guess the dyes would be a vegetable type?

 

Swamiji's response:We generally use red, white, and black. Black is

tamas and we grind charcoal from the fire. White is sattva, and we

grind basmati rice. Red is rajas and we use sindhur.
