Guest guest
Really " Some of the names are not quite so easy on the tongue" , thanks for this good email Nanda <chandimaakijai > escreveu: Henny said:So I read, and then sang the names, or rather, they gradually started to sing themselves. And I felt so much lighter and happier. Dear Henny and all, Writing this post after chanting the 1008 names, and like you I too feel lighter and happier. Speaking about singing the names, have you heard Maa chant them (it is in a CD) ? I always feel a thrill through my body when I hear the opening bars of "Smashanakalika Kaaaliiiiiiiiiii" ... Very haunting and otherworldly. Well , Maa's voice is always beautiful, but there is something about Kali that makes the chant very moving. So this is the first time that I chanted the Kali sahasranam by myself. I have only so far chanted this text in a group setting with Swamiji or someone else leading the text. So chanting by myself for the first time, here are a few observations ... 1) One of the names of Kali(name no 103) is CHANDI (YIPPEEE, CHANDI MAA KI JAAAAAI) 2)Chanting a sahasranam is a lot easier than chanting a text like the Chandi for example. Since this is a list of names, it almost feels like I am doing a roll-call of sorts . 3) Some of the names are not quite so easy on the tongue. Maa Kali has some names that are 16 syllables long . I think the really long ones start towards the end - like name 790 yavaayaakasinduuraraktacandanaruupadhrk yikes, I went, how am I gonna get THAT name? Then when I looked at the meaning of the name that Swamiji has so kindly provided, I could identify and break it into more identifiable terms.rakta - means redcandana - means sandalsinduur- red vermillion (remember we offer this to the deity during puja as well)ruupa - means formyavaayaa- is a derivative of "yauvan" which means youthful. So lo and behold , the name can then be broken out as yavaayaa-vaka-sinduura-rakta-candana-ruupa-dhrk Makes it easy on the eye. The meanings of the words really helps !!! Thank you Swamiji! Thats it from me! Hope you are all chanting. Do post and let us keep the bhav of Kali alive. Guest guest
i enjoy chanting with shree maa the 1000 names. i have her singing on cassette tape. i sang yesterday with her and then batteries wore down and i just kept going. i love the melody that she sings the names to--it is simple and lovely and easy for me to follow. thereafter, i was able to just sing the rest of the names by myself with no trouble because i knew the melody. i appreciated that. having chanted this a few times before the names are not hard now. but what i really appreciate is how the text is printed. there are only one or two complete lines (stanzas?) on each page of the kali text by swamiji (along with the individual breakdown of the names), so it 'feels' like it goes a bit quickly because i am turning the pages often. anyway, that's my experience from yesterday. -- Be Love, Egyirba http://www.egyirba.net -=-=- .... 0388."Love just happens. Nobody thinks about how to love, or when and where to love. Nobody is rational about love. Rational thought hinders love. Love is a sudden uprising in the heart. Love is an unavoidable, unobstructable longing for oneness. There is no logic in this. It is beyond logic." --Ammachi, "Awaken Children," Vol.5, p70
