Guest guest
Hi Though I've just ordered the rudri here is what i can contribute to Shiva: My first visit to an ashram in India was on or around Maha Shiva Ratri which was celebrated in that ashram with a 7 day saptah. For me it was like diving into a completely new outer and inner world. This was in the seventies. And it was on or around my birthday. There were (or are) many murtis of gods and saints in this ashram's gardens - but Shiva was he one that always attracted me most. Can't send a picture of my puja with Shiva murti cause of lack of hardware. And there is a big framed poster of a painting by a western painter of Mahamrtyunjaya above my puja. He has 6 arms, the lower two holding two water pots, the two arms in the middle hold a rudraksha mala and a deer (an antilope?), both hands in mrga mudra. Snakes around his ankles, arms and neck. A long rudraksha mala around his neck, too. His upper arms are raised above his head, holding two more water pots puring water over himself. He is sitted on a tiger skin on a rock in the middle of a waterfall in the Himalayas. For me the pots contain the "water of life", the unending and boundless energy of the Shakti and the power of grace and compassion. I don't know if this picture is the classical iconografy of Mahamrtyunjay, if there is one at all. O yes, I forgot, he has two scorpions as earpendants, which I interprete as another symbol of his role as pashupati. But I am not sure at all of this my interpretation. Blessings to everybody D - In , "Nanda" <chandimaakijai> wrote: > > > Dear All, > > Since we are discussing the Rudri now, it will be great if you would like to share one or more of the following > your experiences of worshipping Shiva - Shivaratri comes to mind, shiva puja pictures (Muktimaa, hope you are reading) of Shiva from your altar.any Shiva pilgrimages that you have been on - Jyotirlingams, famous Shiva temples etcanything that you would like to add on Shiva . > JAI SHIVA > > Nanda >
