Questions about murtis

Hi all

 

First question: Can I do prana pratishta myself, no brahmin being

around to perform it. And how would I proceed for murtis of Shiva,

Ganesha, Krishna and Lakshmi? What are the mantras and so on?

I know it's the heart's attitude that counts in one's relation to the

gods but somehow I feel this need for prana pratishta, probably cause

it is the traditional way to install murtis on an altar.

 

Second question: I've been told that the trunk of Ganesh should always

show to the right side (from the onlooker's perspective) otherwise it

would be unauspicious or only for sadhakas who perform very special

Ganesh pujas. Any comments on this?
