Om Namah Shivaya

Dear All,

Special thank you to Eric, Muktimaa, Kalia and my Lieve Henny for

sharing your enthusiasm on the Rudri. Thank you Dharmavidya for

buying the book to be able to share our discussion.

Kalia said "The entire text of the Rudri is beautiful but I especially

like the feeling which comes from repeating "and .... is within me"."

Yes Kalia, that is the Chamakam and I love it too .. More on that in

the next few days ...

Muktimaa echoed Kalia's sentiments and said "many more will have an

opportunity to study the Rudri, who perhaps have never been exposed

to it's beauty 'til now. What a gift to the world this Forum is !"

One sincerely hopes , Muktimaa, that more people will take advantage

of learning from Swamiji via this forum.

Well, dear friends, I hope you all had a chance to read and absorb

information from yesterday's post on the four sections of the Vedas (

/message/15685) and ready to

move on...

Today's "lesson" is more of reference material. I would say, take a

printout and put it on your refrigerator, so that when your best

friend calls and desperately wants to know which Upanishad comes from

which Veda you have the answer ready

Ok, lets get going then

================================================

Yesterday we discussed the different sections of a Veda – the

Samhitas, the Brahmanas, Aranyakas and the Upanishads.

As we discussed, the Samhitas are the core hymns of the Veda and the

other sections were added later on.

Here are some examples of the Brahmanas, Aranyakas and the Upanishads.

The list is by no means exhaustive – it is just intended for the

“newbie” to the Vedas to get familiar with some of the names

Samhitas:

Shakala (Rig Veda) Taittiriya (Krishna Yajur Veda) Kanva(Sukla Yajur

Veda) Jaimineeya (Sama Veda) Pippalaada(Atharva Veda)

Brahmanas::

Aitareya (from the Rig Veda) Shatapatha (Sukla Yajur Veda)

Kaushitaki (Rig Veda)

Taittiriya (Krishna Yajur Veda)

Aranyakas:

Aitareya (same name as the Brahmana – from the Rig Veda)

Sankhyayana ( Rig Veda) Taittiriya (Yajur Veda)

Brihadaranyaka ( Sukla Yajur Veda)

Upanishads:

Isa (Shukla Yajur Veda) Kena (Sama Veda)

Katha (Krishna Yajur Veda)

Prasna (Atharva Veda)

Mundaka (Atharva Veda)

Mandukya (Atharva Veda)

Aitareya (Rig Veda)

Taittiriya (Krishna Yajur Veda)

Chhandogya (Sama Veda)

Brihadaranyaka (Shukla Yajur Veda)

Kaushitaki (Rig Veda)

Svetasvatara (Krishna Yajur Veda)

Maitrayani (Krishna Yajur Veda)

Next we will focus on the Parent veda of the Rudrashtadhyayi - the Yajur Veda.
