And there is a big framed poster of a painting by a westernpainter of Mahamrtyunjaya above my puja... Dear Dharmavidya ~ all that you wrote here was very wonderful, and I could "see" the picture you "painted" as you described the picture above your altar. I too have always been very attracted to Shiva, especially Shiva Nataraja, and I have a medium sized statuette of Shiva Nataraja on my altar. He is wearing a necklace of red beads that I made for him ~ the necklace is like the sacred fire energy of Shakti. I have one question, though. When we do our prayer seva, we chant the Mahamrtyunjaya Mantra, and in your post, you describe Mahamrtyunjaya as a diety, and I am thinking, even an association with Shiva. Can you tell me more of this aspect of Shiva and whether there is any connection between that and the MM Mantra? Thank you, blessings ~ Linda
Guest guest
Dear Nierika Has taken me a while to answer. Yes - I have found descriptions of Mahamrtyunjay as a deity and the picture I have I think is one of those. In these descriptions he was described always with water pots but with a different amount of arms and I think attributes. I am researching at the moment cause I can't remember where I found this information. When I know better I'll let you know. I am very interested myself in he iconographic background - if there really is any - of Mahamrtyunjay. Have a good day D , nierika@a... wrote: > > Dharmavidya wrote: > > ...Can't send a picture of my puja with Shiva murti cause of lack of > hardware.
