Our Swamiji has given us a more compassionate description of Rudra. He translates Rudra as derived from the words – asru-trayate. ‘Asru’- means tears, and ‘trayate’ means that which takes away. Swamiji says,†Rudra is the form of Shiva who takes away the tears, and puts an end to all suffering†(Side Note: For all you Chandi lovers out there, check out the verse “Aham Rudrebhir Vasubhish caramyaham…†in the Vedic Praise of the Goddess. It translates to “I travel with the Relievers of Sufferingâ€.)... Dear Nanda ~ this is all so beautiful, but alas my book has not arrived yet, so I am still atwitter with anticipation. I loved this passage especially, and Swamiji's translation. I know that Swamiji believes that scriptures have been and should continue to be translated with an eye to the times that are current, and all his translations are so magnificent. I also love the way he breaks the words down into their component parts and then comes up with the meaning. I'm packing my suitcase ... I'll be traveling with Rudra from now on. : ) Thank you and many thanks to Swamiji ~ Linda
