Guest guest
Nanda asked me to share my experience with the Earth Mother Sankalpa with homa oblations. "How have you set up your havan kund. What do you offer? etc etc. I am sure we would love to hear the details." I live in a cold climate with lots of snow, rain and wind. I have a woodstove as a secondary heat source. Swamiji said it would be alright to do homa oblations in front of such a fire. Please note Nirmalanda's cautions about chimney fires (previous post)! I have taken precautions. I have a stove that can burn with the front door open so long as I keep the fire hot and safe. I am doing this. I do not use ghee or camphor around the fire. I offer rice into the fire. My schedule in life is intense and since the goal is devotion, this works best for me now instead of spending time getting a copper havan kund and figuring out how to not smoke up the house. My intention is with love and devotion. It seems to work well. With the weather, this is best. In the summer I will have an outside fire. I use a Shiva mala because that is the mala I have and use regularly. I may expand on that later. How it is different than japa: Sometimes all I can do is japa. Sometimes japa is just the right way. I have done the Earth Mother mantras with homa oblations and with japa. It took me a couple of hours to set up the homa fire and get through all of the mantras with offerings and intention. I found that my ATTENTION was more focused with the fire than with japa mantra. I "saw" the planets in the fire, "saw" things burning away, and felt I was feeding the planets with my devotion and with our karmas. Felt I was praying for us all. My experience was that this form of mantra meditation is deeper quicker. I would say with both homa oblations and with japa mantra I have reached meditative states. I can see myself doing japa during the week and once per week on my day at home doing a fire. I feel blessed to be a part of Shree Maa's and Swamiji's family and to have the opportunity to be guided in this sankalpa. Om Shanti
