Guest guest
OM NAMAH SIVAYA like you Nanda, i have had sadhana sneak in, namely Kali Mantra, MMM and Gayatri Mantra, throughout my workday. and i am always striving to incorporate more into my day by both increasing efficiencies and recognizing deficiencies. but my real challenge has been to find space to add totally dedicated exclusive time for sadhana. that has been difficult. for me really there are only two options, in the beginning or at the end of each day. the end never really seems work for me, for various reasons. which by default leaves the beginning. and my wife isn't interested in waking earlier, so using an alarm clock is out. so i started saying a prayer at night to Kali to wake me a little earlier than usual to give me some time to totally devote to Her. and believe it or not it is working. i wake earlier most everyday and consequently have time for some additional uninterrupted sadhana each morning. it's been a treasure that has really positively affected my whole day. and the blessing i feel throughout my day is substantially greater than anything the extra sleep ever gave me. if i'm lucky it will become a new habit. -eric JAI MAA , Nanda <chandimaakijai wrote: > > Dear All, > > I wanted to share my experience with one kind of sadhana that is happening to me - the kind of sadhana that sneaks into my life. > > This has happened twice so far ! With Maa's blessings , may it happen more and more ! > > The first time it happened was the Ganesh Atharvasirsham sankalpa that we did as a group to offer the benefits of the chanting to those impacted by Katrina ! I can still remember the energy that we generated together. I was so inspired by the sankalpa and Ganesh in particular (why hadnt I fallen in love with him before ?) that even though the sankalpa completed, I found myself chanting this particular hymn everyday. I have this habit (credit to my parents) where I pranam my altar as soon as I have a bath. After the G.A sankalpa, instead of the quick dunk of my head on the ground and rushing off to do my tasks of the day, I found myself sitting at my altar and spending the next few minutes chanting G.A. > > The G.A. became my minimum maintenance sankalpa. Even if I didnt have the time to do any other form of formal sadhana , I always had the three minutes for GA. And it gave me the good feeling that I WAS doing SOME form of sadhana without the feeling that I had to carve- out time in the day to make sadhana happen. > > The second time that this form of sadhana has happened is NOW - with the Earth Mother Sankalpa. Since, with my current work pressure, I dont have the luxury of time during week days to set aside an hour for sadhana, I try to make do where I can. I remember Swamiji telling me, many many moons ago, "ah but you can do one mala during lunch time" when I had asked how to incorporate formal sadhana during the day. While I havent exactly incorporated that suggestion, I did find a chunk of time that was not utilized much - my commute time. I find myself chanting the mantras for the day during this time, and I found to my surprise that the distance between my home and work was such that I could complete 9 malas one way. (fewer if they are longer mantras). Since I have become so accustomed now to chanting these mantras during my work commute, I know that , even after our sankalpa, I will automatically pick up my mala and chant one mantra per planet and thereby finish one round for all 9 > planets in a day. > > Trust Maa for creating situations in which formal sadhana gets "automatically" incorporated in our lives, with minimal interruption but with great benefits. > > Has anybody else found this happening in their lives too? Guest guest
Namaste dear friends, for me the 'please wake me up in time' worked as well on some days, but then again, many times it didn't and I felt bad all day. So now I set the alarm an hour earlier every day and get up really fast because otherwise my husband (who likes his sleep) pushes me out of bed to turn it off:). As far as the sneaky kind of sadhana is concerned: I find myself repeating mantra's or singing Maa's songs (not out loud, that is) when I'm at work or in the bus etc. But I didn't really count that as 'official' sadhana, because I thought japa required some preparation; washing hands/face, rinsing mouth, lighting candle, sankalpa. So I've been saving the mantras for the Mother Earth sankalpa for the evenings and chant at my altar. But now I think that maybe all this is not necessary and I could do them during my lunch-break as well? Are there any requirements for doing japa? I know devotion is what counts most, but for the ME sankalpa, we are counting the malas. For instance, what if you are mentally repeating the mantra for, say Surya, and someone disturbs you? Do you start the count all over again? Or just continue where you left off? I'd greatly appreciate your input, with love, Henny , kandaaran wrote: > > > In a message dated 2/17/06 4:17:24 PM Mountain Standard Time, > ecjensen_us writes: > > so i started saying a prayer at night to > Kali to wake me a little earlier than usual to give me some time to > totally devote to Her. and believe it or not it is working. > > > Namaste Family, > > That is my way also, going to sleep repeating a Siva mantra.
