A mala is normally 108 repetitions ( 100 is an accepted rounding off, covers errors of mispronounced mantra, skipped bead and plain estacy dropping of the mala ) so 6,000 repetitions = 60 malas x 100. If it is necessary for me to stop within a mala, I use a rudraksha bead to mark the spot to continue. Here is a quote from the Tirukkural under Undaunted by Calamities: Laugh when a calamity comes upon you ; there is nothing like laughter for overcoming it. and this which is another one of my favorites: Those who are not troubled by troubles will cause trouble to troubles. Guest guest
A mala is 108 repitions for many reasons. 1 <- Number of leader +8 <- Number of teacher =9 <- Number of spirit / soul / consciousness Thats one of the reasons why there are 108 (+1) rudraksha seeds on a mala. kandaaran wrote: > In a message dated 2/17/06 5:08:32 PM Mountain Standard Time, > nierika writes: > > It must sometimes look comical to some of you on the list, and I > can see a little cartoon character of myself, on a little red > motorcycle, hair streaming in the background ... here she comes, > folks ... oh, up, there she goes ... oh, wait, here she comes. > Thank God/dess I can joke about it or I think I'd really just give up. > > Namaste Sweet Sister Linda, > > You are a beautiful inspiration for overcoming trouble. > > A mala is normally 108 repetitions ( 100 is an accepted rounding off, > covers errors of mispronounced mantra, skipped bead and plain estacy > dropping of the mala ) so 6,000 repetitions = 60 malas x 100.
