So my question is - how does one apply absolute truths to the relative world ? How does one translate one's actions in the world to reflect the absolute truths ? Or is that even doable ? I would love to know of your well thought out and intuitive responses. JAI MAA Nanda"<< Dear Nanda, I used to think I knew the answer to this..."oh just follow the Yamas and Niyamas" or "act always from a place of Love" or "try to hold your attention on what is BENEATH the relative world of form and manifestation....the pure consciousness of God"...but then I began to contemplate the fact that EVERYTHING is a manifestation of Divine Consciousness..the world, as it IS, is Devi...all of the seeming "mistakes" are part of the scheme of things...it is all happening as it is supposed to, even the worst disasters. Understanding this made me realize how people could so easily justify doing things that are harmful or simply turning away from the suffering of others because it's all "unfolding as it should" and who am "I" to interfere. For me, then, this thought of the world of Absolute Truth, where everything is unfolding as it should and the relative world of Maya, where we are all called upon to make decisions about our ethical behavior, was the only thing that made any sense. On one level, Hurricane Katrina CAN'T be "wrong" or a "mistake" or "evil" or even "bad". On the level of the Absolute that manifests as "the world", disasters are not "mistakes" but may serve many functions: a cleansing of the Earth, a release of energetic tension, who really knows? But on the relative level within which we live, Hurricane Katrina caused alot of suffering, personal suffering. The Absolute Good may not translate into the Personal Good. And we have to live within the relative world with all of its personal suffering. If we are fortunate enough to be among the people on the planet who KNOW, through our own experience, that these "Absolute Truths" exist and we also know, through our own experience, the freedom and bliss that can begin to emerge through this awareness AND we are fortunate enough to actually know human beings who live in this state of awareness all the time and are guiding US towards that state, then I think the amazement and gratitude that arises naturally results in a desire to help others, to alleviate suffering and, most importantly, to work on ourselves so we don't cause more suffering for others through our own samskaras or blindness. Just even beginning to see the EDGES of Truth creates so much longing to live in that state, that I think our actions become more and more naturally attuned to that Truth. so, personally, I don't think it's so much "applying absolute truths to the relative world" as it is ALLOWING the truth that is always present to have enough space to arise naturally...and that happens through sadhana and through Grace. best love, sadhvi
