thanks for thinking of the club at the mandir

Hi Steve,

I like to look out for myself and my loved ones as much as anybody else.

I will share something that Maa told me a coupla years ago. She said

(and I paraphrase) "You love your family very much. Just expand that a

little bit to include more people"

Maa's words are always potent, and ofcourse I have spent a long time

thinking over her advice. I have found now that when I pray for the

welfare of someone that is really close to me, it is really easy to

include and want blessings for those that I am not particularly close

to as well. It is like the prayer club all over again - praying for

those "on the list " not just on Saturday but every time. It definitely

expands the heart and I would humbly recommend it to anyone that would

like to try .

Thank you Maa as always for your keen perception and sage advice.

Nandaji,

a little elaboration on expanding the circle: I have a colleague I did

not like very much and it really bothered me that I could not stop

myself saying nasty things about her at home after work. Of course,

deep down I knew there was nothing particularly wrong with her, and

that it was my own resentment and egomania that made me do this. But

knowing that, I still carried on. And then when I was reciting the

sankalpa for the Shiva puja, starting with a prayer for the welfare of

Shree Maa and Swamiji, followed by the names of my family, I got a

'mental nudge', saying : 'why don't you include (this person)'s name

and pray for her welfare too?'. And so I did (with difficulty at

first) and I still do. It has not worked miracles, but there is

definitely a change and I hope my ill feelings will disappear

completely eventually. So expanding the circle has worked for me, and

perhaps this could work for others who are struggling with negative

feelings as well,

with love,

Henny

Dear Henny,Thank you for your honest sharing and also your sincere

attempts to get over your resentment by including your colleague in

your sankalpas.

I had (and have) several similar situations. Once when I wrote to

Swamiji about it, he replied in his compassionate way "Do you

remember that verse in chapter 4 of Chandi where it says that wishing

the best for our enemies certainly destroys all enmity."

Well, dear Henny, to be honest, I am not sure which exact verse he is

referring to "

width="18"> - as it could have been one of many, but regardless...

Swamiji's words made a lot of sense even though but I have had to

remind myself many times since then.

I have found that sincerely wishing the best for each person takes

away a huge weight from my shoulders, and allows me to look at

situations more objectively. Put simply, forgiving and wishing the

person very well, is really a smart move.

Om Sivaya

Nandaji how true. Lovingly working with those we know removes

barriers. My Guru says being consistent is the best way to work out

karma. Thank you and Henny for reminding me of expanding the circle.

Kanda
