Guest guest
Dear Nanda and all, I understand that during Shivaratri celebrations, we offer milk during the first puja, yoghurt during the second etc. So when I performed my first puja, I thought I'd try this, and offered only milk. But then my poor tiny Shiva lingam looked very cold and naked, so I ended up with offering all items, including cloth etc. But then, when I was ready to perform my second puja, I was unsure of how to proceed: would I have to take everything away again and start all over? So I did the second puja mentally (and offered all items again) and left everything where it was. For the third and fourth I 'undressed' the lingam and started all over again. But now I am wondering: what would have been the correct procedure? What did you do at the Devi Mandir? with love, Henny
Guest guest
Dear Henny, What we did at the Mandir, was to offer the main ingredient for the puja, and followed it with three standard offerings for each puja - water , flowers and chandan. So the lingam was still decorated (and got progressively more and more during the night). So for the first puja, for example , we offered milk, and then water, flowers and then applied the chandan (sandal wood paste) on the lingam. The second puja we offered yoghurt with the standard offerings, the third - ghee with the standard offerings and the last - honey with the standard offerings. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Dear Nanda, if you'll permit me to go on about this: did you remove the 'old' sandalpaste before pouring the offering over the lingam and then apply new sandalpaste, or did you leave it on, offer the liquid in another way (at the 'feet' of the lingam or in a dish, so as not to get in a mess with the sandalpaste) and then put on some more sandalpaste? thank you for your consideration, with love, Henny , "Nanda" <chandimaakijai wrote: > > > Dear Henny, > > What we did at the Mandir, was to offer the main ingredient for the > puja, and followed it with three standard offerings for each puja - > water , flowers and chandan. Guest guest
Nope, we left the chandan and the flowers on . The next offerings went on top of these... so by the end of the night Shiva was gooey and sticky and colorful and messy and heavily decorated. Almost like a kid playing with fingerpaint and gets most of the paint on his face and body A sight for sore eyes. All offerings were made on the lingams and they dripped across the lingam on their way to the base and got collected in a bucket.
