Guest guest
Dear Brothers and Sisters, Om! The next question I asked Swamiji was : when is prayer effective? Swamiji said that "our focus and our understanding of the meaning of what we are saying are the most important things to make prayer effective. When we chant, our minds must be absorbed in the chant, not on what we did yesterday or what we plan to do tomorrow. One pointed focus is key. Additionally, when we understand what we are chanting then prayer becomes even more effective. For example, when we chant the Chandi, we are offering all our negativities, afflictions, want of resolution, wandering minds, etc. to Her. That is why we are chanting the Chandi. However, if we start thinking about the trip we are planning to make tomorrow, or what my boss told me yesterday, the chant is not as effective." For myself, when I am at the fire, I just look at the fire and focus on the sound whenever I am not reading from a book. Please do share your thoughts on this post. I look forward to your comments. Jai Maa! with love and prayers srini
