Guest guest
Dear Nancy, There are two questions in your posting: How to recognize (what are the qualities of) a sincere guru? And, how to find one? The qualities of a true guru are perfect moral purity, and no self interest at all. The sincere guru's only concern is the spiritual advancement of the disciple. The question of how to find one is more difficult. The best answer I have heard is, "When the disciple is ready, the guru must appear". So, I suppose, the best course is to make oneself ready---perhaps by making oneself as much like the true guru one longs for as possible. Respectfully, Tanmaya , "Nancy" <kali_devoteeak78 wrote: > > Namaste All, > > My name is Nancy and I am a practictioner of the IndoPagan Path. Guest guest
Dear Lokesh, I've always liked the story about the lioncub amongst the sheep, and I thank for telling it here. But now I've read it again in your post, one thing puzzles me. How could the lioness 'forget' to take her child with her? Who is the lioness in the story? Is it maya (and the 'forgetting' was part of the game)? I'm just wondering, perhaps you have an idea? Or perhaps there's no deeper meaning at all:) with love, Henny - In , lokesh h <lokspavi wrote: > > I give one example > > There was one lioness which was moving around between mountains. > Accidently it gave birth to one lion in one mountain and forgot to take it from there. Guest guest
#1 is, his/her example. their behavior. there are insincere gurus with great trappings of spirituality. so it is essential to get beyond the outer drama. what is this guru as a human being. it does come down to your own inquiry. we have to make our own evaluations. that you used the word "sincere" in your qualifications says a lot. so, the qualification is, a guru mst be sincere. that sounds like a simple matter, but what it means is, actions and teachings are 100% aligned all of the time. in this world we found very famous gurus with guns, drugs, and lots of girlfriends. these gurus can talk circles around devotees. the devotees let themselves be mesemerized. we are so far away from sincerity. will your guru treat you like a human being, or elevate himself, in some psychological manner? finally we even have to say, god, if you don't give me a guru i will be guru to myself, or, i will take you directly as my guru. i will call a tree my guru. there is no way i will be stopped in my spiritual progress. , "Nancy" <kali_devoteeak78 wrote: > > Namaste All, > > My name is Nancy and I am a practictioner of the IndoPagan Path. The two statements of yours in the same post seem to be not consistent. I think the former makes more sense than the latter. About the latter (guru is a map): I humbly suggest that the guru is not a map, rather he is the guide who knows the map and the ever-changing topography represented by the map. How many people can do a Ph.D in math with just the textbooks (aka map) and no guides (aka teachers or gurus or friends on the path)? Very very few. Much much more likewise in the far more subtle realm of spirituality that a toolkit (sadhana practices) and a guide (guru) are both needed BY MOST OF HUMANITY. That slight difference of understanding aside, I must say your posts are wonderfully original and inspiring! Jai Ma!

Guest guest
Dear Lokesh ji, I am sorry but I have to disagree with your post and how you are referring to the greatest thing in this World, the Guru. I normally don't answer posts, but I could not refrain from this one. My Guru is the only thing I can depend on. She is my All in All. I am so lucky She allows me to depend on Her. I would be completely lost without Her. It is only by Her Grace, that She has allowed me to hold on to just one Big Toe on Her Lotus Foot, so I don't drown in the Ocean of Maya. She is not just some map. A map can't come and find you and help you when you are lost. You can only use it. But my Guru will always rescue me, should I get lost or in trouble. She is my Beginning and my End--my Path, my Journey and my Final Destination as well. So please consider not belittling Her like this. If one is not a Guru, then how can one say what the job of a Guru is, especially stating that the Guru only has one job. Jai Maa! Jai Gurudev! Guest guest
Namaste Nancy, My quest for a true Guru ( at the time I didn´t know there was any other kind) started when I read my first book about an Enlightened Being´s own road to the Truth. I cried throughout the whole book and couldn´t wait till the end to find out where He was. At the end I found He had left the body before I was even born (this time around), but the fervor He experienced in His quest for His own Guru changed me. I made a sankalpa then (even though I didn´t know the term) and a mere ten years later I found myself at the Lotus feet of my beloved Shree Maa and Swamiji. I was overwhelmed so completely at that moment that I knew that a new life was beginning. Guest guest
Their action is consistent with what they teach. They do this because they want to, they are not motivated by an earthly reward. The devotee researches to qualify the guru's sincerity. While waiting to find the guru, one does everything within one's ability to become a worthwhile devotee, or, to find the guru within. We change ourselves, just a little from inside, and look at what happens outside, apparently without trying. A sincere guru might even come to your house and say hello. , "Nancy" <kali_devoteeak78 wrote: > > Namaste All, > > My name is Nancy and I am a practictioner of the IndoPagan Path.
