Dear Mahamuni ~ you are correct in stating that the Earth Mother

Sankalpa directions do specify a particular or preferred mala for

different Deities:

Surya (Shiva mala: rudraksha)

Chandra (Shakti mala: red chandam or red coral or crystal mala)

Mangala (Shiva mala: rudraksha)

Buddha (Shiva mala: rudraksha)

Brihaspati (Shiva mala: rudraksha)

Sukra (Shiva mala: rudraksha)

Sani (Shiva mala: rudraksha)

Rahu (Shiva mala: rudraksha)

Ketu (Shiva mala: rudraksha)

However, early on in the sankalpa, someone asked Swamiji about the use

of the different malas, and he replied that if one doesn't have all

the malas, the rudraksha mala may be used for all and is appropriate.

(Nanda, Parvati ... if I am incorrect in this information, please

write and let us know. My memory is not so good these days.)

I had only a sandlewood mala, but the local bead store was selling

rudraksha malas (very large ones at that) at a really good price, so

I bought one, and have used that for the EMS Sankalpa. I had to count

the beads, though, because the first two I counted had the wrong

number of beads. Hope this helps. Jai Swamiji ~ Linda

Yes, but I happen to have several of those types of malas. That is

why I asked that question. Also I could be wrong but I think at

least one other of the planets had the shakti type mala recommended.

Pranams,

Surya
