Guest guest
I understand were you are coming from but you must see the fact that the goal is what makes the difference eg. for a alcoholic, alcohol is the goal, were as for a person seeking their Ishta, the union with their Istha is their goal. As for being emotional and distruptive to what is supposed to be normal actions by society the saints are out there even going further than an alcoholics. The difference is that when they attain that union they see their Istha in everything, then when they come back to duality they are filled with compassion. If you want to get a glimpse of Sri Ramakrishna's life when he was practising his sadhana read Swami Chetanananda's wonderful book "Sri Ramakrishna and His Divine Play" a modern translation of Swami Saradananda's (a direct disciple Sri Ramakrishna) book "Sri Ramakrishna Leela Prasanga". I am not suggesting that acting mad is a sign of devotion but thats what a devotee is, so mad for his Ishta that everything else ceases to be important to him just like an acoholic but just that his alcohol is his Istha. So the goal is what makes the difference. Jai Sri Ramakrishna!
