Question from Swamiji on prayer/meditation

Dear Swamiji,

Thank you so much for giving us another opportunity to "think" with

our minds and hearts about this question

Sometimes prayer is giving thanks; sometimes it is asking; sometimes

it is crying out for Godd/dess as a child would for his/her

Mother/Father. Prayer is answering the call that echoes to us from

the Cave of the Heart.

Meditation is entering that Cave where there is nothing but God/dess.

We go sometimes to pray and sometimes to enter the Cave, I think,

because, in both there is something indescribable ... I want to call

it joy, but it is bigger than that.

Swamiji asked this question: What is the differencebetween prayer and meditation?

Meditation is sitting in the Stillness of God while prayer is an

action with the objective of manifesting God.

While meditating we are simply be-ing, without desire, knowing

ourselves to be One with All Life. If we are able to come to prayer

from this place of Oneness, and the knowledge that God is manifesting

in all that we do, we can see prayer as that Oneness moving through

us, into the world of form; creating, transforming, and destroying,

allowing Maa to do Her work using us as Her tools.

As Shree Maa told us some time ago, a life of prayer is how we say

thank you to the world for allowing us to be here. Through the Good

that is working It's way through us we become that which She wants to

create in the world.

OM Shanti

Morningsong

My children, we are very proud that you are praying for this Universe.

We pray that you ask yourself the question-- what is the purpose of

my life? What is my goal? What do I want to give to this world to

say "Thank you" for allowing me to be here? The asking of this

question is the beginning of meditation and the answer to this

question is life of prayer.

Bless you,Shree Maa(February message to Prayer Club)

Sri Swamiji,

For me, I love the way of the Hummingbird (person), who prays Oratio)

to the sweetness of nectar the love of creation that is offered it.

Meditatio for me, is contemplatio, that essence of the action of

that same Love given to all in creation.

Tears of Joy.

Om Shanti Prema,

Jai Guru Dev, Jai Shree Mataji, and Jai Hummingbird person...

Beloved Swamiji,

thank you for asking the question. To me, prayer is a device our

Divine Mother has designed to draw us into meditation.

with love and greatest respect,

Everyone's life is a life of Prayer

To be alive is to identify

To identify is samayama or meditation

Everything identifies with something

What is Prayer?

An action or desire arising from any identification

If we identify "God"

Our mind and body flows towards "God" in Prayer

Seeking union

If we identify " lover"

Our mind and body flows towards "lover" in Prayer

If we identify "country"

Our mind and body flows towards "country" in Prayer

If we identify "positive"

Our mind and body flows towards "positive" in Prayer

If we identify "negative"

Our mind and body flows towards "negative" in Prayer

Can we ever stop identifying?

If we can,

Then what about Prayer?

Jai Sri Ramakrishna!

I like your response Mahamuni and would like to add, because in

Prayer we ask, at times prayer can contain some element of

selfishness as we prayer for our needs/wants to be met and then

forget Divinity until "the next time".

Beloved Shree Maa tells Her children, "Do not ask God for anything".

Meditation comes out of a deep longing for God, to know God, to see

God, to be one with God. Meditation is deep concentration on the

Divine, looking inward; listening and acting with faith.

Thanks Beloved Swamiji for this question and opportunity.

Pranams.

Yes, but there are many selfless things to pray and ask for. The

various scriptures contain many and I know that Shree Maa and

Swamiji are chanting some of these selfless prayers everyday.

Quick example is any of the peace mantras like Lokah Samasta

Sukino Bhavantu

For those that don't know the translation, it can be translated as

"May all beings everywhere (every Lokah/World/Plane of

Existence) be Happy!

Now one could even argue that this could be a little selfish since

the reciter would be included, but I would say that this is not the

intent of a reciter of this mantra--though one in an Exalted State

might see only Their Self in all Beings.

Anyway just thought I would add that.

Also as far as meditation, to listen we must get quiet...quiet inside.

This is what I was getting at. It doesn't necessarily have to imply

on listening with the Inner ear for Inner Sound, etc, though that is a

potent form of meditation.

Jai Maa!
