Guest guest
Namaste Everybody, Today is new moon and it is tuesday. It says in Kali Puja book page 107, that "Whoever will worship on the Tuesday night of the New Moon, offering the five principles to the Great Foremost She Who Takes Away the Darkness, the Supreme Goddes of the 3 Worlds, and recite these 100 names, actually becomes a manifestation of She Who Takes Away Darkness, and knows no obstacles from anywhere in the three worlds." These are verses 30 and 31 of the Kali 100 names stotram. All the names are so beautiful! Please do read them when you have a chance. New Moon is a great time to worship Kaali Maa. She is dark - and She takes away all our darkness and shows us the light! Jai Kaali Maa! Swamiji explains the "5 principles" in the verse above in a very beautiful way - He shows us how we can all offer these 5 principles as we recite Kali's 100 names. The 5 principles are the 5 M's: Maach, Maamsa, Madira, Mudra, Maithuna. Maach (fish) moves about the Ganga and Jamuna, the ida and pingala in our body as we do pranaayam. So we make this offering by doing pranaayam while we chant. We offer mamsa (meat) by controlling our senses and focussing our attention on the divine, on our chanting, on the fire. We offer madira (literally wine) -- the wine we offer in the nectar of our pure devotion. Mudra means parched grain and this is offered in fire sacrifice - it stands for offering the fruit of our karmas. Maithuna is the rising of the kundalini from the mooladhara to the sahasra chakra. This is my understanding of the five principles based on what Swamiji explained and i pray that i have understood correctly! Hope this helps to make your Kali puja even more beautiful! Thank you! Jai MAA! Jai Swamiji!
Guest guest
Hello, According to my calendar and the information from our local Temple...New Moon, Amavasya is Wednesday, March 29th and not Tuesday. this is important because, at our Temple, Navaratri "officially" begins tomorrow, allowing time for Amavasya Kali Puja, Amavasya Hanuman puja and I also do Varahi Puja on Amavasya every month (as she likes)...plus I am hoping to begin the homa part of EMSankalpa today. this month the Amavasya day is even more important because it co- incides with a solar eclipse and some powerful planetary configurations. I was really startled when I read: New Moon on Tuesday ..."Uh Oh!", I thought, "have I missed it?" (since today is Wednesday). Thank you very much for the information contained in the Amavasya post..very interesting. best regards, sadhvi
