Last evening, we had celebrated the birthday of Lord Ram at the Mandir.

The evening started with a small puja - we do a puja and take a

sankalpa before every undertaking. We did a puja to Ram "parivaar" or

family - including Sita, Lakshman and dear Hanuman. Then we offered at

the Homa with Hanuman's mantra "Om Ham Hanumate Rudratmikaya Hum Phat

Swaha"

And then started the Sundar kand!!!

Most evenings it is Maa's singing or Swamiji's chanting that is main

event - yesterday even though Maa sang, and Her presence filled the

room , it was Swamiji that occupied the centerstage.

Swamiji and Hanuman !

The Sundar kand sings the exploits of Hanuman as He goes to Lanka in

search of Mother Sita. He find Her and gives assurance that Ram will

surely come and get Her soon. Then he allows himself to be captured -

and when the wicked Ravana has his tail set on fire, flies throughout

Lanka causing havoc and igniting everything in his path. Then he

flies back to Ram taking a token from Sita to show his mission was

successful.

Thats the story! And it is detailed in 60 long verses by Tulsidas.

Swamiji's energy was incredible ! His natural enthusiasm had increased

exponentially - at times it seemed like he was Hanuman setting all of

us on fire, at times he was Tulsidas cheering with the 4th doha (page

21) "Hey Dear One, take all the pleasures of heaven and even those of

liberation and count them as one, all of them together cannot be

equal to the pleasure gained from satsangha, from the communion wit

beings of truth" ( So THAT is Swamiji's favorite verse in the

Sundarkand...)

There was a little Ram at the event - a boy all of 2 or 3 years old.

When Swamiji sang the samput "Jai Siya Ram ", this boy was up on his

feet (even when he stood his head was only on the level with people

that were sitting down, but he raised his head towards Swamiji and

was clapping and singing for all he was worth) ... Needless to day

this little fellow got a lot of loving from all of us and special

blessings from Maa and Swamiji at the darshan line.

This was one evening where instead of dancing, all of us preferred to

sit and keep pace with Swamiji. Of course our bodies was swaying,

hands clapping, and knees tapping on the floor ... it was a BIG

release for all of us when after the final verse (which is sung with

the MOST EXQUISITE SAMPUT) we all got up and shouted "Victory to Lord

Ram !Victory to Lord Hanuman!Victory to Lord Shiva!"

And then we did the Arati, stood at the darshan line to get blessings

from Maa and Swamiji and quietly dispersed to eat dinner .

So much energy at the event! And Swamiji made the Sundar kand my new favorite text to sing ..

JAI HANUMAN !!!!!JAI SWAMIJI !!!!!
