Guest guest
Swamiji Maharaj, In your experience, is there a most superior type of asana seat/rug/skin, such as tiger skin, lion skin, deer skin, sheep skin, etc or are certain types more appropriate for certain types of sadhanas/tapas? Is there a best color for these skins as well? Or is a combination the best, such as combining kusa grass with deer skin? Also if the answer is lion and/or tiger, are other cats like leopard, puma, etc just as good? I've read that these were used because they are poor conductors of electricity, so they soak up and retain the sadhu's shakti from His/Her Tapas, instead of letting it disperse into the Earth. I know I saw quite a few older, strong sadhus in India with various types of tiger/leopard skin. Lastly, (sorry for the long multi-part question), does the skin have to be new and unused (such as previously used as a rug, etc), to be good and appropriate, or will it become purified and charged over time? Is there a ritual to cleanse and charge it initially? Thanks and Pranams, Surya
Guest guest
Until Swamiji responds, you might take a look at verses 134- 167 in the Guru Gita (The Guru Gita is in a book called Guru and the Goddess) for information related to some of your questions. Within this range of verses there is discussion about asanas of different qualities such as deer skin, kusa grass, blanket, and colors, and directions for meditation to bring certain things. Further into the chapter there is a discussion about where to meditate. There was dialogue about this last year in the group and some of us got specific direction from Swamiji for what asana and direction we would best be served by. Jai Maa! Guest guest
Thanks for your comments. More than one scripture mentions these sorts of things and I have found all to be fine but I was just curious about the various cat skins. Jai Maa!
