Harsha: Thank you for being here with us Wise Dirk Haueter. For those who

don't know Dirk, he is a highly experienced meditator since a young age and a

man of great knowledge and wisdom and insight. Dirk spent many many years as a

monk studying the scriptures and the mysteries of life. The girls finally got

to him. :--). He lives the life of a Rishi. His wisdom has humbled him so that

he now teaches through asking questions. Grateful for your presence Dirk. Jan

handles all the tough questions here so we will wait for his answer :--).

Dear Pure Joy,

Is this by chance the "Dirk" that used to write on the K list and got

bounced off of it? None of my business but such a gentle entrance and if

so I think it is great ! If he can focus all that knowledge, the list

will be enriched.

Blessings,

+ Maureen

Harsha: No Maureen. That was Dieter who got thrown off the K-list. Dirk has

always been a very gentle and usually a quiet presence on all the lists that I

have shared with him. However, his posts are testimony to his grace, humility,

wisdom, appreciation and aspiration. I hope I am not embarrassing you Dirk. It

is just that I have admired you for so long that it was bound to come out.

Tell us about the girls though after you left monkhood. Only if you feel right

about it. Jerry wants to know (I am serious) :--).

I have to agree with you Harsha. What a gentle and quiet giant he has been to

me many times over! I do wish he would post more often. Thanks for telling

us a little bit about him.

Dear Maureen,

Thank you for remembering me. I'm still on the k list last I checked, but I

tend mostly to lurk. It would be more interesting if we could get Harsha to

talk about his experience and deep understanding of the nature of the

immortal self. He has wisdom that is beyond the intellect. Please help me to

persuade him. If I ask he will only make fun of my not having a girl friend

:-)

Namaste,

Dirk

Jan:

Where I found the Kathopanishad on a website there was a commentary on it:

"There are two that partake of the Cosmic Order in the World of good deeds.

Both have entered into the secret Cave (of the heart) in the superior, the

upper worlds of being. Those who know the Secret Teachings

(Brahmavidah--those who know the one ultimate Reality) and those Five-Fired

ones (the Good Householders who work in the five levels or with the five

principles of the manifest reality) who have kindled the triple Nachiketas

Fire (the Kundalini creative serpent-fire), know them as Light (Mahat--the

projection of the Shanta Atman--the Silent Witness) and Shade (Buddhi--the

intuitive Inner Knower or Jnana Atman)".

So in the third boon, Nachiketa wants the secret teachings (Brahmavidya).

According to my encyclopedia this isn't ordinary knowledge but

Self-realization. It would mean the difference is between a K. related

discipline or the direct (nondual) path.

As cases in recorded history indicate that this particular direct path is a

shortcut, Nachiketa knew what and why he was asking this boon and also that

it would be granted. In the introductory verse, it becomes clear Nachiketa

is sincere and pure. Visiting Yama symbolizes one, able to accept the

consequences of death while the body still is alive. When all conditioning

and clinging to life is gone, what remains (and will be spontaneously

recognized) is one's natural state - irrespective of the label (if any) one

will give it.

Just as a side note, Maureen Heffernan had encouraged me privately to

start this list. We have now many distinguished and experienced people

here(around 30) many of whome I have known for a while on the other

lists. Flute (Carol)a wise and an experienced teacher is also here.

Please everyone feel free to introduce yourself. I took a bit too much

liberty with introducing Dirk.

Thanks Jan for your posts. They create an environment in which

Self-Awareness is uncovered. I will get better organized and post

frequently on the Self (two or three times a week). I might invite

several people who used to be on the k-list but are no more there. In

the next week or two I will add in the description of the list that

discussions are also encouraged on "relationships" or how to have

spiritual relationships, etc., and how the topic of relationships fits

into the context of living the spiritual life. Comments welcome. Got to

run. Leading a worldly life.
