Guest guest
> Phil Burton <philibuster_98 [...] //Sleepers_Awake So I've taken Jerry's hint and started (another) nonduality list. This occurred to me today at work as I noticed that many of the teachers of nonduality (e.g. Ramana Maharshi) have pointed out that consciousness exists even in the state of deep sleep, and that deep sleep possibly underlies all experience as the continuum. It seems certain that what we call "unconscious" may just be consciousness "cleaning house" as it were. Well, maybe we can get into this over there. Phil In the state of deep sleep there are no thoughts and indeed perennial bliss is as present as in other states. The little snag is that it will take such a long time before one is fully awake in the state of deep sleep, that the state of being ever awake within a mortal frame is extremely rare. It is a mere curiosity because long before that, all shackles that could cause reincarnation are burned, so this concerns "stages" of moksha. The peeling away of the last layer simply means the "distance" between dreamless sleep and waking consciousness gets smaller, until they can no longer exist as separate states and a new situation arises. It could be possible that these issues are discussed in a book called "Jivan mukti viveka" but it doesn't exist in English. Jan
