Guest guest
Hello to All, Today, it is a beautiful day in the Seattle, WA (USA) area. This is the first day in almost 6 months that the sky here is mostly cloudless, and more such days are predicted. On such a day, the seeing of the objective world as illusion wanes somewhat. I will not avoid this, but accept it, and enjoy the beauty of this early spring day. The air is fresh and clean, and the sun shines with glory, a beautiful mirror-reflection of Brahman. It is so rare in this area to see sunshine, and so beautiful. The illusion is not the veil, but the notion that there is nothing other than the veil. http://www.users.uniserve.com/~samuel/brucemrg.htm http://www.users.uniserve.com/~samuel/brucsong.htm m(_ _)m _ _________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. That sounds more like the DElusion to me. The veil of course exists, yet it does not exist (here we get tangled up in dualistic words again). The world around us is illusory in the sense that the actions taking place on a movie screen are illusory. Of course, there is real light being projected onto that screen, and real time was taken to make the movie, and real actors used. But in a sense, it is illusion, and only a story. The Real (Reel? :-) is the projector and light emanating from It. Guest guest
Tim Gerchmez <fewtch Another analogy I like to make is that the world is like the shadow of a man. The shadow is of course not illusion; it exists. But it is also illusion, in the sense that it is not the man. Not as attractive an analogy as you made, but one I believe to be True. I've come to believe that the common translation of the word "maya" to mean "illusion" is a very inexact translation. Perhaps "illusion" is the closest word in the English language to "maya," but I don't believe that when someone from India thinks of the concept behind the word "maya" they are thinking the exact thing we think when we think of the concept behind "illusion."
