Guest guest
Sometime in the recent past, someone (perhaps Jan or Sandeep) on one of these lists said: "seriousness is a disease" I have heard this before and not really understood it. I have been told (mostly by people who are living outer focused lives) that I am serious and intense. My own self observation might define me more as earnest and committed with a healthy sense of humor and gratitude. Many practices seem to require, or at least suggest that, a serious commitment to the practice (of let's say meditation or observation or surrender or devotion) is essential. So.. my question.. what is referred to here, when one says "seriousness is a disease"? Is it taking one's self or one's orientation too seriously, thereby running the risk of myopia... or something else? thank you, Christiana

I have been intending to answer it, but been mad busy. Just so Sandeep is aware I am not suffering from terminal seriousness, I will forward my favourite joke 'The Reverend's Wife'. My dear friend and teacher Terry always said to me ''it is all one great cosmic joke''. Sandeep's words made me laugh; I often take myself and everyone and everything far too seriously. I am reminded of the Indigo Girls lyrics from 'closer to fine' "I'm trying to tell you something about my life maybe give me insight between black and white and the best thing you've ever done for me is to help me take my life less seriously it's only life after all yeah" It's only life, ha ha. Hi Christiana, You have to ask Sandeep. He is the culprit. And he is very serious about it ;-).
