"A Guide To The Bodhisattva Way Of Live" - Santideva

"The Essentials Of Hinduism" - Swami Bhaskarananda

"Collision With the Infinite" - Suzanne Segal (Thank you to Jerry Katz for

generating the interest in this book).

Dear Tim, Your enthusiasm, talent and high intelligence are great gifts.

Your love of Sri Shankra and Advaita Vedanta is contagious Thank you for

sharing them with us. Could you please post the essential messages of the

book in a summary fashion. That will be appreciated. Have you ever read Paul

Brunton's two books on his visits to India. You might enjoy them. If you

ever read some books about Ramana Maharshi, please let us know and give some

opinions and summaries. Thanks for the all the good work that your are

doing.

In gratitude

Harsha

Dear Harsha,

Thank you for the kind words. Of the four books I mentioned, I find Swami

Vivekananda's words to be the most inspiring. He had a true and deep

insight into nondual spirituality, and he had a way of expressing these

insights to the modern Western mind (such is mine :-) that is truly

amazing. I find his words to be both inspiring and uplifting, and

reflecting deeply of Truth.

I read Suzanne Segal's account. I now believe that she is genuinely

enlightened, not "mentally ill," although there is no proof of the matter

(and need not be), and found the book to be enjoyable as well, although I

skimmed through parts, and will probably return to and read it again more

thoroughly.

I've only read some short summaries of Sri Ramana Maharshi's words (as

available from the link on Jerry Katz's pages). For some reason, His words

don't resonate with me in a way that's pleasing or that bring Me to further

knowledge of Myself. I don't doubt for a minute that he is genuine, nor do

I suggest that His words are untrue, simply that for this particular mind,

his words don't seem to "cut to the core" and are not very helpful.

Everyone (at the mind-level) is different, and what are words but a

speaking to the individual mind?

I'm positive that Sri Maharshi is a great sage, but what I've read so far

(admittedly not a lot) don't seem to give me much. This is a matter of

"personal preference" only, and I note the fact that many (including many

that I respect deeply and who obviously have a great knowledge of Truth)

have found Him to be one of the greatest, if not THE greatest, and I can

only respect that.
