Guest guest
Dear Harsha, Thank you for the kind words. Of the four books I mentioned, I find Swami Vivekananda's words to be the most inspiring. He had a true and deep insight into nondual spirituality, and he had a way of expressing these insights to the modern Western mind (such is mine :-) that is truly amazing. I find his words to be both inspiring and uplifting, and reflecting deeply of Truth. I read Suzanne Segal's account. I now believe that she is genuinely enlightened, not "mentally ill," although there is no proof of the matter (and need not be), and found the book to be enjoyable as well, although I skimmed through parts, and will probably return to and read it again more thoroughly. I've only read some short summaries of Sri Ramana Maharshi's words (as available from the link on Jerry Katz's pages). For some reason, His words don't resonate with me in a way that's pleasing or that bring Me to further knowledge of Myself. I don't doubt for a minute that he is genuine, nor do I suggest that His words are untrue, simply that for this particular mind, his words don't seem to "cut to the core" and are not very helpful. Everyone (at the mind-level) is different, and what are words but a speaking to the individual mind? I'm positive that Sri Maharshi is a great sage, but what I've read so far (admittedly not a lot) don't seem to give me much. This is a matter of "personal preference" only, and I note the fact that many (including many that I respect deeply and who obviously have a great knowledge of Truth) have found Him to be one of the greatest, if not THE greatest, and I can only respect that.
