Guest guest
Harsha: Many Yogis emphasize focusing on the Manipura Chakra for health, strength, vitality, and healing of others. See for example Swami Sivananda's book on Pranayama. Deep breathing and gentle retention exercises also have been known to be effective in stimulating the Manipura Chakra. Guidance in all this from a competent person is suggested. For someone who is familiar with the subject matter, Kundalini awakening and symptoms such as the feeling of electrical shock currents, heat, lights, visions, etc. will not cause concern. Sometimes, it is not the Kundalini manifestations (call it Holy Spirit or Divine Intelligence, if you wish) that can do harm, but the reaction of the people experiencing them. This is why being familiar with the Kundalini literature and having experienced people around is very helpful in maintaining a balance. Western psychologists have only recently started exploring this phenomena, perhaps with Carl Jung. So many people who are having these experiences or have had them have indeed been misunderstood. Fortunately with many Medical Doctors like Lee Sannella now writing about this, the subject is becoming more mainstream. Kundalini Yoga is all about exploring the nature of consciousness. Therefore it has a lot to contribute to the understanding of human psychology and spiritual well being. Its real import is however in revealing the true nature of the Self, which is without any bounds or limits, and Eternally Free.
