Guest guest
There's an interesting article on meme theory in this month's Harper's Magazine that also describes self as a conglomeration of memes. I'm not sure meme-ists would agree on the existence of, or imagine, a ground of being, Self, or fundamental nature that appears when all the memes are out of the way. There's also something to be said for the way that memes act on each other creatively and holographically rather than just accumulate like beads on a string. Holly Alas, in this part of the world, Harpers Magazine is unknown. It is likely the memes have a mutual influence as the brain is a giant network. The fact that yoga has been and is being scientifically investigated regarding physiological effects is one of the examples showing inter-connectivity of memes. Issues like human rights are another example. Before remarkable changes in one's physiology are becoming obvious, quite a number of veils has to be removed and this is the main reason why it doesn't coincide with a career in science. The most remarkable meme is no doubt the one suggesting a self that is the doer, the actor, the thinker. Its absence is something that can be "experienced" but it would be correct to say this meme has several levels. It would even possible to link these levels to the various bodies like astral, causal etc. Without the influence of the self-meme, the other ones are in a certain way de-personalized - they have become tools and assets. It is the reason why Self-realization and what follows can have such a profound effect on character etc. Jan
