>From Sky of The Heart; Jewels of Wisdom From Nityananda:

Sutra 11

If you have come to buy milk,

Why ask the price of the cow?

If you seek the Self,

Why be concerned about the body?

One who has attained the Self is in the body

But like the dry kernel in the coconut

Is not attached to it.

A rope burnt to ashes cannot be used to tie.

No man can harm another--

Each does it to himself with his own thinking.

A boatman is needed to push the barge across

The river, and a guru is needed for initiation.

Once the opposite bank is reached,

The boatman's help is not needed.

The boat in the water is like the Self in the body.

If your feet are muddy,

You look for water to wash them.

Fut if you are afraid to touch the water,

The mud will remain.

One hand alone makes no sound,

But two hands coming together make

Sound-energy.

Your fingers are not the same size, yet when

Scooping water, they become one.

When there is experience, it is One.

All holy men and perfect ones are alike.

All water in the well is the same--

There are not two kinds.

Similarly, the life-force--Shakti, kundalini--

Is the same in all creatures,

Mobile and immobile.

The sun and moon also

Are the same life-force.

The Self in the heart-sky (Inner sky of counsciousness; sahasrara)

And the heart-sky in the Self are One.

Those who know this One sing in ecstasy!

They know the bliss-producing kundalini.

They discover their own life-force

And awaken it;

Join with it.

By joining with it repeatedly,

They attain devotion and liberation.

They conquer birth,

They conquer death and its brood,

They forget all.

Know the true nature of Maya;

Likewise know the nature of eternal bliss.

O mind, become one with eternal bliss.

Drink of the Self in the head;

Unite the world with the Self int he head

For here is the fulfillment of birth.

Strive for the Self in the head.

In the Self, unite the three states of

Wakefulness, dreams, and sleep.

Keep the key of the higher mind close at hand.

As you guard the key to a treasure, carefully

Keep subtle discrimination in the head.

Water is hot only if it is left on the fire--

On the ground it becomes cool.

Let the higher mind be like water kept warm.

Faith must be constant.

The embodied Self is like a calf confined,

Always eager to escape.

So is the individual Self eager to escape to

Higher wisdom.
