Sutra 21

 

The subtle kundalini is comprehended

 

By following the path of the higher mind.

 

Like milk being boiled,

 

The vital breath in the sushumna channel is

 

Heated by intense faith and discrimination

 

And led toward the sahasrara chakra,

 

The still point at the top of the head.

 

As the kundalini power

 

Crosses each subtle energy center,

 

Properties of the energy that evolves

 

As the world change.

 

And as they change--so does one's whole birth.

 

As the breath of life

 

Abiding in the chakras as enlightenment

 

Moves upward,

 

Peace and patience flower.

 

 

Cross the five centers, the five houses,

 

And reach the ajna chakra between the eyebrows.

 

Freed from the six gunas,

 

Enter that highest state--

 

Being-Consciousness-Bliss!

 

Enter the fire-circle

 

In the inner sky of the heart

 

Where Shiva and Shakti merge and play,

 

Where past, present, and future merge

 

To come together in the bindu.

 

In this undifferentiated point

 

Find the fire of spiritual wisdom.

 

Meditate on this fire.

 

Attain the seat of consciousness in the head.

 

Let the vital breath unite with Shiva and

 

Dance as the one Self.

 

Conquer mantra and yantra,

 

The symbols spoken and the symbols drawn.

 

 

Let the higher mind rise

 

To the center of the sky of consciousness

 

And become one with the dawn of the Self.

 

Offer up the body's properties and actions

 

And let your spirit merge with the absolute Self.

 

Seat your spirit at the sushumna channel's crest,

 

Its real home.

 

Let the sense of "mine" and "yours" merge.

 

Let all properties of the individual be unified,

 

Become a Perfected One and fear nothing.

 

Knowing the way to the Absolute,

 

Give of this food to others.

 

Conquer birth and death;

 

Be free of them and enjoy eternal peace.

 

The light of the higher mind

 

Reveals all strengths and weaknesses,

 

All workings of the mind.

 

Like the sky and its reflection,

 

The natural and the subtle are seen separately

 

By those who have realized the Self.

 

 

The inner state is like a jug immersed in water.

 

All is water.

 

Be immersed in the waters of wisdom,

 

Let the waters of the Self wash desires

>From the mind.

 

Find joy!

 

Enter liberation!

 

Mind, remain always on the path of liberation--

 

Whether walking, sitting, standing, or sleeping.

 

Liberation entertains no rules of time

 

Even in the midst of crowds,

 

Let your inner being remain in

 

The sky of consciousness.

 

With intense faith, lead the mind

 

To drink of liberation.

 

Devotion and liberation are one:

 

Become one with the power and sound of Om.
