Guest guest
A story I heard the other day changed my experience of life. I hope you enjoy it. btw... I forgot one thing in the previous post on karma. An additional way to avoid accruing merit as one acts is to offer up the fruits of those actions to the Divine. A yogi friend from Romania sent me a wonderful article his teacher wrote on Karma yoga which goes deeply into the application of reducing ones doership in ones daily activities. It is so well written that it can be applied to one's current situation and get immediate results in ones sadhana. (results, which of course, are offered back to the Divine ) Anyone interested in the article can e-mail me and I will send it to you. I hesitate to just post it because it is copyrighted material. The article is in html, so all you have to do is open the folder and the first page with your browser to read it. Finally, Here is the story: A saint was passing through a village. The locals welcomed him with flowers and garlands and he laughed, saying, "Glory to you, Lord! How wonderful is your play!" Then he went to another village and some ignorant people threw stones at him and shouted abuse, saying, "Go away!" Still he laughed, saying, "O Lord, sometimes you honour me with flowers, sometimes with stones." Teacher telling the story: "Now, unlike the Saint, some of us might have picked up the stones and thrown them back at the people, along with a few choice words. But because he was even-minded, the Saint accepted both- the garland of flowers and the stones. He had realized, Gurureva jagat sarvam, everything belongs to the Satguru or God. It is all His blessing. The inner being of such Saints is filled with bhakti, with true devotion." warmest regards, martin
