Guest guest
Namaste Brothers and Sisters, Susanne. Yes I agree that the ideal is fruit and nuts etc. However it takes time to move. Also the plants don't have a comprehensive nervous system like animals. They register the violence but don't feel the pain etc. Another good book is the secret life of plants. With regard to self-defence it is my understanding that violence is legitimate in self-defence, also coming to someone else's defence even violently is an obligation. Otherwise to ignore is Himsa for being complicit. We can only do our best I suppose, one step at a time for some. With regard to Karma, what is going to happen will happen anyway it is just our illusion of free-will acting out the scene and thinking we control it.???? I believe the first step is to be honest with ourselves about our behaviour. We are all unpredictable and contradictory. We all say one thing and somehow find ourselves doing another. When we can face the truth about ourselves, we have finally taken a few steps. We can't change anything until we face what we need to change. When we have strong views on certain issues (such as your meat issue) we need to be really honest and not just selective about our views. For a long time after I gave up meat I expounded the cruelty to animals scenario and the things you mentioned. I ignored the violence to plants because that didn't suit me to accept at the time. I thought I was "doing the right thing" and "better" than those still eating meat, when really I was being dishonest to myself. That ultimately is what matters, how truthfully we face ourselves. > With > regard to Karma, what is going to happen will happen anyway it is just > our illusion of free-will acting out the scene and thinking we control > it.???? > Maybe! Yet karma is a powerful teacher. If we need to defend ourselves in some way, instead of just "acting" and ignoring the karma, we can use the karma to learn something really important about us. > "God is formless. In this vision God was glowing and shiningwith billions of lights. Being a bit slow at the time, it was only years later than I understood that we are those glowing shining lights within God. We are the cells of God. God wasn't formless but was shaped like a human, glowing magnificently. We don't have to give up anything to merge with God because we are.
