Guest guest
Dear Silvia, You asked: >> > >Do any of you know the relationship between Buddhism and >> > >the practice of Kundalini Yoga? Is this type of practice compatible >> > >with Buddhist teachings? My knowledge of the genealogy and relationship between the different schools of yoga and how they relate to the different schools of Buddhism is not great, so please bear with me if this reply doesn't answer your questions to a great degree or if it does not contain any information which is new to you. I don't belong to any specific path and hence, does nor possess inside information about the relationship to other paths. If anybody wants to add information or correct my points, feel free to do so. Kundalini yoga is only one of the many yogic pathways originating in India, there are the schools of Hatha yoga and Raja yoga etc etc. I don't know what separates one school from another. All yogic schools belong in some form to the Tantric traditions, which all work, in one form or another with the life force, Shakti = Kundalini. This may be the only thing the different schools have in common (apart from some teachers..). Vajrayana Buddhism can be seen as a Tantric tradition, as it too has teachings of the life force and Kundalini, as well as yoga exercises. But on the whole (and again, this is a great over simplification) the Indian Tantric and Yogic traditions belong to Hinduism and the teachings pay homage to certain deities / individualized forces, which Buddhist paths do not. So there are many similarities and many differences, depending on how you want to view things. Compatibility ? Kundalini is compatible with all traditions / religions, as it is known in most Oriental as well as Western religions / spiritual traditions. Hope others can fill out the gaps in the info.
