Yes indeed, and the Hindu and Buddhist scriptures bear this out as well. The subtle body (which includes mind) leaves when the physical body dies, and no longer encumbered by flesh, is more conscious than before. That's one reason why suicide is so discouraged. The person who kills themselves will be in the same state as before bodily death, but the negative emotions will be greatly amplified.
