The position for sleeping (ahh, refreshing), making love, and prostration (humility, lowering the mast of ego). Meditation seems to fit perfectly... as long as the basic "rules" of straight spine and non-tilted head are observed. I believe sitting might have evolved so widely in the East because it's hot much of the year there.
