Christianity is not repressive, though some of its most prominent and visible practitioners have been. The better the understanding and the more open the heart of the practitioner, the more open will be the practice. I can tell you from years of experience in one of the strictest, most orthodox and fundamentalist branches of Christianity, that the fear and repression are not essential to the religion. Over the years, from many hundreds of people I've known in the denomination I was in (as well as allied pentacostal denominations), that Christianity can be a beautiful, jubilant, inspirational experience. Have you perhaps had some negative religious experiences that continue to reverberate? I also happen to know several people who have had that experience. Speaking of negative experiences that reverberate in the body, here's one about the religious one being the victim, not the perp. I have a very good friend named Jimmy who experienced bodily contractions whenever he heard the word God. He could talk about a higher power, or consciousness, but rankled whenever the word "God" came up. He didn't even realize that this was happening. One day Jimmy went to a healer/teacher who picked up on his contractions. And he said what was going on. The teacher's wife was there, who was a clairvoyant. She said she got a vision of Jimmy in a past life. In that life, it was an Old-Testament times, and he was a prophet who was martyred because of his love of God and his faith. In this life, he was mad at God for allowing this. Once Jimmy heard this from the clairvoyant, he said "Yes, yes"! And has been comfortable with the word and concept of "God" ever since. > Are you referring to several people on this list saying that your posts > > seemed to sound like advertising? This is a bit mechanical and an analysis, wouldn't you say? Why is the religion-thing the only psychological reason you'd give? How about the fatherly or authoritarian tones of your posts bring up feelings of inferiority and lack of self-esteem in the readers, this triggering their posts? I'm not saying that one is any better, but it is no worse a hypothetical psychological analysis.... Some people come to ask for your services. What about other people? As far as others go, especially on a highly specialized spiritual list like this one, have you tried giving due credit for people having seen and heard and learned and felt and realized and known and experienced the same things you are urging and suggesting? With Love, --Greg If you're going to say that their reactions are negative, and you want to give a psychological analysis, what's wrong with an alternative one, such as: your sounding like you are teaching others brings up feelings of inferiority
